England Goalkeeper Ellie Roebuck Returns to Football After Stroke Recovery
England goalkeeper Ellie Roebuck described her return to football as "a dream" after being sidelined for nearly a year due to a stroke.
The 25-year-old revealed in March that she had suffered a "left occipital infarct" last year, though fortunately, there was no permanent damage to her brain or vision. Roebuck, who transferred from Manchester City to Barcelona in June, made her debut in Barcelona's 4-1 victory over Real Betis on Saturday.
"303 days later. The goal was always to play the game I love again," she wrote on Instagram after the match. "At times it felt impossible, but to do it for Barcelona is a dream. It's been a journey. Thank you to everyone who has supported me along the way. Nothing will ever beat this feeling."
