FM COAS Asim Munir Named Pakistan’s First-Ever Chief of Defence Forces
In a landmark move, the federal government has appointed Field Marshal Asim Munir as Pakistan’s first Chief of Defence Forces (CDF). President Asif Ali Zardari approved the appointment on Thursday after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif forwarded the official summary earlier in the day.
The formal notification has finally ended days of speculation and conflicting rumours regarding the new defence leadership structure. With this appointment, Field Marshal Munir becomes the inaugural officer to assume the newly established CDF role, signalling a significant shift in Pakistan’s military command framework.
