the opposition-led National Assembly voted to impeach President Yoon Suk Yeol over his failed martial law declaration on December 3. He becomes the third South Korean president to be suspended by parliament.

The impeachment resolution was delivered to Yoon at 7:24 p.m., immediately suspending him from office. The Constitutional Court will decide on his reinstatement or removal within 180 days. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Han Duck-soo will act as president.

Han instructed Cabinet members to prevent public unrest and ordered the military to stay alert to ensure national defense and security. He also directed the Joint Chiefs of Staff to prevent any reckless actions by North Korea.
