Thai-Cambodian Troops Clash Briefly Amid Border Tensions
The Suranaree Task Force had a brief confrontation with Cambodian troops amid heightened tensions over border patrol duties, confirmed Lt Gen Boonsin Padklang, Commander of Thailand’s 2nd Army Region, on Saturday.
The clash followed reports that Cambodian soldiers had advanced into Thai territory near Nam Yuen district, Ubon Ratchathani, raising security concerns.
Recent images showed Cambodian troops digging trenches and building fortifications, with nearly 100 armed soldiers positioned defensively, hinting at a potential standoff.
Despite the tension, Lt Gen Boonsin emphasized that trade at the Chong An Ma Market continues normally, and that any border closure would adversely affect local communities dependent on cross-border trade.
He added that diplomatic communication remains open, and both nations are actively working to manage responsibilities and ease tensions.
