World's Largest Male Sydney Funnel-Web Spider Found in Australia
Australia is now home to the largest male specimen of the world's most venomous spider, the Sydney funnel-web spider. Discovered on the Central Coast, approximately 50 miles north of Sydney, the spider was initially handed over to a local hospital but has since found a new residence at the Australian Reptile Park. The Australian Reptile Park aims to utilize the spider's venom for the production of antivenom, contributing to efforts to save lives. The Sydney funnel-web spider is known for its potent venom, and the research conducted with specimens at the reptile park plays a major role in developing effective antivenom treatments.
