Bilawal Bhutto Zardari Asserts February 8 Election Date Amid Delay Speculations
Amid growing concerns about a potential postponement of the general elections, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari affirmed on Saturday that the polls would proceed as scheduled on February 8. Bilawal dismissed any attempts to influence the election date, even suggesting that resolutions from international bodies like the United Nations (UN) or the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) would not alter the predetermined schedule. The PPP Chairman made these remarks during a press conference held in Lahore, responding to queries regarding the Senate's recent approval of a resolution seeking to delay the elections. Bilawal emphasized that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had already issued a schedule for the polls on February 8. He conveyed, "No matter if [they] get a resolution passed from the Senate, the UN, or the OIC, elections will be staged on February 8," reinforcing the commitment to adhere to the established timeline. These comments signal a stance of unwavering determination by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and the PPP to uphold the electoral process as planned, notwithstanding any external attempts to alter the election schedule. The situation adds an intriguing layer to the ongoing discussions surrounding the fate of the upcoming general elections in Pakistan.
