Federal Ombudsman Issues Notices to Former NAB Chairman Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal in Tayyaba Gul Harassment Case
The Federal Ombudsman Secretariat for Protection Against Harassment (FOSPAH) has taken a significant step by issuing notices to former National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chairman, Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal, and 11 others in the Tayyaba Gul harassment case. FOSPAH Chairperson Fauzia Viqar conducted a hearing on the case, originally filed by Gul in 2022, where she had alleged sexual harassment and rape by the former NAB head and other officials of the anti-graft watchdog. In her detailed complaint, Tayyaba Gul, whose controversial video with the ex-NAB chairman surfaced in 2019, made serious accusations against Javed Iqbal, claiming she was subjected to sexual harassment during her visit to the NAB office. The former NAB head has vehemently denied these allegations. Gul's distressing account includes an incident when she was presented before NAB's Director General Shehzad Saleem. She alleged that her clothes were torn off upon his directions, resulting in bruises on her body during the search process. Javed Iqbal was accused of threatening to ruin her life within a minute. These revelations came to light during Gul's testimony before the National Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC). Furthermore, she claimed that she met the then-NAB chief during a meeting concerning missing persons, and during this encounter, she was allegedly filmed. Shockingly, the videos were later shown to her husband, adding another layer of distress to the harrowing experience. As FOSPAH takes on this critical case, the notices issued to Javed Iqbal and others mark a significant development in the pursuit of justice for Tayyaba Gul, shedding light on the urgency of addressing harassment allegations within key institutions.
