First Lady Asifa Bhutto Zardari Reviews Flood Preparedness in Shaheed Benazirabad
First Lady and Member of the National Assembly, Asifa Bhutto Zardari, visited Shaheed Benazirabad district on Sunday amid concerns of possible flooding. She convened a meeting with the local administration to review challenges and preparedness measures.
Officials, including the Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner, SSP, and representatives from the irrigation, health, and Rescue 1122 departments, briefed her that in the event of a super flood, around 80,000 people across 95 villages in nine union councils may be affected.
The briefing also revealed that nearly 64,000 livestock could be at risk, with evacuation efforts already underway. Areas in Qazi Ahmed and Sakrand, including That, Saeed Kando, Phuleil, Khad, Gehram Mari, Bahawal Shah, Mehrabpur, Mari, and Morya Lakho, were identified as vulnerable.
Authorities informed her that 59 relief camps and 11 medical camps have been activated in Qazi Ahmed and Sakrand, with life jackets, boats, fire brigades, ambulances, dewatering pumps, and ventilators already arranged for emergency response.
Asifa Bhutto Zardari praised the efforts of police, administration, and volunteers, assuring the people of Shaheed Benazirabad that “they will not be left alone.” She stressed that this is a time to put aside political differences and unite as one nation, noting that this would be the district’s third major flood in just five years.
