Five Islamabad Police Officers Suspended Following Controversial Raid at PTI Leader's Residence
The Islamabad police announced on Sunday the suspension of five officers, including the SHO of Margalla Police Station, following a "mistaken" raid at the residence of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Barrister Gohar Ali Khan in Islamabad. A specialized unit of the Islamabad police conducted the raid on Saturday at Barrister Gohar's residence in Islamabad’s F/7-2 area, aiming to apprehend individuals involved in the May 9 violence and other anti-state activities. The police's actions during the raid, including the mistreatment of Barrister Gohar's family, property damage, and the confiscation of valuable documents, mobile phones, and a laptop, were reported by the relatives to the media. At the time of the police raid, Barrister Gohar was advocating for PTI’s electoral symbol. Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa expressed concern over the incident and instructed the additional attorney general (AGP) to investigate the matter.
