Funeral of Aga Khan IV Held in Lisbon
The funeral of Aga Khan IV, the 49th hereditary imam of the Shiite Ismaili Muslims, took place in Lisbon. Dignitaries from around the world attended Saturday's private ceremony at the Ismaili community center. Among the mourners were Portugal’s President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa and the mayor of Lisbon.
The Ismaili religious community stated that Prince Karim will be laid to rest during a private burial ceremony in Aswan, Egypt, on Sunday.
His passing was announced on Tuesday by the Aga Khan Development Network and the Ismaili religious community. The following day, in accordance with his father’s will, 53-year-old Rahim Al-Hussaini was named Aga Khan V, assuming the spiritual leadership of millions of Ismaili Muslims worldwide.
