Massive Earthquake Forces Evacuation of 57,360 Individuals to 955 Shelters in Ishikawa and Niigata
During a press conference on Tuesday afternoon, Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi reported that a staggering 57,360 people were evacuated to 955 shelters across Ishikawa, Niigata, and neighboring prefectures following a powerful earthquake that struck the Noto Peninsula and surrounding areas. Hayashi stated that approximately 120 rescue requests have been received. Various support units, including 634 police officers, 2,037 firefighters, 1,030 Self-Defense Forces personnel, and 22 Coast Guard members from other regions, have been deployed to the affected areas to provide assistance. Expressing gratitude for the global outpouring of sympathy and assistance offers, Hayashi emphasized, "We will collaborate closely with other nations based on the extent of the damage and local requirements."
