Murtaza Wahab: Manhole Covers Aren’t Missing, They are Being Stolen
Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab has said that manhole covers are regularly installed across the city but are repeatedly stolen, creating dangerous conditions for the public. Speaking to the media, he emphasized that there is no shortage of covers; the real issue is persistent theft.
Wahab said municipal teams remain equipped to respond quickly whenever an incident is reported. He urged residents to immediately inform authorities about any open manholes so action can be taken without delay.
Expressing deep sorrow over the recent death of three-year-old Ibrahim, who fell into an open manhole, the mayor said the tragedy has left the administration ashamed and devastated. “Blame games do not resolve issues,” he added, stressing that efforts are underway to prevent such incidents in the future.
