The United States has chosen veteran Emirati diplomat Anwar Gargash to deliver a personal message from President Donald Trump to Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, signaling Washington’s interest in pursuing diplomacy over conflict.

Gargash flew to Tehran on March 12, where he met with Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and handed over the letter. Although initial reports in Iranian media avoided confirming that the message had reached the Supreme Leader, insiders suggest it triggered internal debate and has opened the door to renewed dialogue.

Iran has indicated that it prefers Oman as the venue for any future talks, and initial discussions are scheduled to begin on Saturday, April 12, in Muscat, between US Middle East special envoy Steve Witkoff and Abbas Araghchi.

This diplomatic effort comes amid ongoing regional tensions and reflects a notable shift toward backchannel engagement.
