A tragic incident shook social media audiences as 23-year-old beauty influencer Valeria Marquez was fatally shot during a TikTok livestream from inside a beauty salon in the Mexican state of Jalisco.

Valeria, who had gained popularity for her makeup tutorials and beauty content, was livestreaming a regular session when an unidentified gunman entered the salon and opened fire. She died on the spot, sending shockwaves throughout the online beauty community.

According to the Jalisco State Prosecutor’s Office, the case is being treated as a femicide, a gender-based crime that remains alarmingly high in Mexico. Investigations are ongoing.

Valeria’s sudden and violent death has sparked widespread grief and renewed calls to address violence against women in Mexico, one of the countries with the highest femicide rates in the world.
