ECP Directs Political Parties to Ensure 5% Mandatory Representation of Women
As the eagerly awaited February 8 elections approach, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has issued a directive to all political parties, emphasizing the "mandatory" requirement of 5% representation of women candidates on general seats. In an order released on Sunday, the ECP invoked Section 206 of the Elections Act, 2017, urging political entities to adhere to this stipulation after the allocation of election symbols. Additionally, the electoral watchdog instructed all political parties to submit the list of both male and female candidates for general seats within a five-day timeframe. This move reflects a commitment to fostering gender inclusivity in the electoral process.
